New faculty faces –Business Building, Sullivan
While the Accounting department continues to grow, the faculty needed to grow to accommodate the students according to school of business dean, Dr. Hector Quintanilla. Quintanilla said “accounting is technical and very dynamic”
Dr. Carol Sullivan is one of the two new accounting professors hired. Quintanilla said “there is a large demand in the accounting field.”
Originally from Houston, Sullivan received her bachelor’s degree in Business Communications and doctorate’s degree in accounting at Arizona State University
Sullivan was an accounting professor at Seattle University. Sullivan said “it is a private school just like Wesleyan but paying $40,000 a year will make you appreciate the fees at Wesleyan”.
Being a high school math teacher was the initial idea for Sullivan. Sullivan said “I like math a lot; I am good with numbers”. However, Sullivan’s high school coach gave her the idea to teach on a college level.
Before becoming a professor, Sullivan worked as an accountant, but she said she prefers being a professor. “You are able to extend your influence and you can do so much more to society being a professor”. Sullivan said “my favorite thing about teaching is the students and I like that the students keep you young”.
“I am enjoying the people at Wesleyan”, she said. “They are friendly, compassionate and the students are very intelligent.”
