New faculty faces –Business Building, Gates

Dr. Sandra Gates is one of the two new accounting professors hired. Quintanilla said “there is a large demand in the accounting field.”

Gates attended the University of Houston, were she received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in accounting. Gates then received her doctorate’s degree in accounting at Arizona State University

Gates said “I finally decided that my heart was in teaching, after having a part-time teaching position.”

Originally from Houston, Gates worked at the University of Texas at Tyler for four years, as an accounting professor before coming to Wesleyan. Gates decided to make the move to Texas Wesleyan University for many reasons, “It’s closer to my husband’s family”, and “I like a smaller school setting”.

Gates said “loves every aspect of the accounting world. “What is there not to love about accounting” she asked. Gates said her favorite thing about accounting is “seeing the student’s faces when they finally get it”. “It is rewarding to see a student finally understand the accounting process.”
